It's not all about the riding here in the Canary Islands; there are many local Spanish bars and cafes which offer a selection of authenitic Canarian cuisine as well as the more traditional Spanish tapas. Local Canarian cuisine is absolutely delicious!
Traditional Canarian recipes include wrinkled potatoes with olive oil + parsley sauce known as "mojo". Don't ever criticise olive oil in the presence of a spaniard or you'll be attacked (verbally but vehemently). There are fish soups and vegetable stews; rabbit, goat and chicken meats; the infamous "gofio" (a staple food consisting of ground corn kernels), goat and sheep cheese. Of course there's the infamous tortilla, while the citrus & tropical fruits are also worth a mention
Coffee is also an institution in Spain, typically served in very small cups or glasses. Locals often ask for "un cortado natural", otherwise it comes with a layer of horribly sweetened condensed milk sludge in the bottom. Bring your teapots with you because tea is practically non-existant amongst local households (sorry punks!). Last but not least: don't forget to sample some home-grown WINE!
